God bless the interwebs.
Seriously.
One of the things that’s never ceased to amaze me is all the content that can be found now-a-days online. From everything to how to tie a tie and fold a fitted bedsheet to quantum entanglement discussions. One of the greatest things the internet has done is create a completely unencumbered avenue for creator driven content. Be it podcasts, vidcasts, webcomics or full on shows—the sky is the limit.
This past weekend I had the great opportunity to go to a screening of Goth Mothers of Transylvania. This new show is from the same creative minds that brought you Saturday Night Dead hosted by Stella. Here’s the rundown of the show from their Facebook page:
Follow the insane lives of five of the most fascinating, rich, and dead, women of.. where else… Transylvania! Once you meet The Baroness Vanessa Von Schtupen, the Vampire; Trachea the Shapeshifter; Blair Deepshitski, the Witch; Lobotomy, the Psychic and Bummy the Mummy, you’ll never forget them. Not even in your dreams… or nightmares.
If you’ve ever seen any of that crap reality TV The Real Housewives (insert mouth breathing city name) this is a spoof on that down to the same style camera shots and just like in the “Reality” series, the drama is scripted. I know, I know, say it isn’t so. Reality TV can’t be scripted—where the reality in that? That’s a topic for another time.
I have a special connection to both Saturday Night Dead and to The Goth Mothers of Transylvania. My Uncle, Robert Billbrough, is part of the cast. You might say that having a relative in the cast would cause a bias in my opinion of the show.
Not true.
I believe it makes me more critical and more likely to point out what I liked and didn’t like. As someone who does creator driven content I would expect the same thing and I know I would get it. Being in the creative field you have to have a thick skin. Not everyone is going to love what you’re doing, or what you did. Others will sing the praises of it. With your content being on the internet everyone in the world can voice their opinion. I can say though, that the show was very funny and creative. The cast is very talented and knows how to have fun, which shows through in the filming. The production was fantastic as was the editing. All in all it was a fun show and I hope it succeeds.
